Aintree Community Garden.

About

The Aintree Community Garden was founded in 2018 behind the Woodlea Sales Office. The land has since been sold and in 2022, the process for the Community Garden rebuild at the Timbertop Community Centre (1 Timbertop Pde, Aintree) commenced.

The new garden will consist of raised garden beds, and fruit trees, and integrate workshops and programs for community, early learning centres, and schools. The focus of the community garden will be around education, workshops and community action to increase food resilience, environmental awareness and sustainable living.

Stay tuned to our socials as we work on the build!

Upcoming Workshops & Events

  • Come and join in a Fruit Tree Workshop. This workshop will be held at the home of Jono (WLA & Eat Grow Garden Founding Director) and will look at all the Winter jobs for fruit trees — pruning, treating for pests, planting bare rooted trees and feeding.

The workshop will involve pruning some espalier and regular fruit trees and we also have some kiwi and grapes to look at and prune as well. Hopefully we will have some bare rooted trees for sale (stay tuned in the event discussion for notice closer to the day).

Starting at 10am at in Jono’s backyard. Morning tea will be provided.

Location: Eat Grow Garden: The House With No Fence, 25 Wireless Drive, Aintree

  • Come and hear about the new Aintree Community Garden design, vision, and how you can get involved! We are hoping the Aintree Community Garden will be completed by the end of 2023 and at this Project Update, hosted by Lifestyle Communities Woodlea, you can hear all about it from project co-ordinator Jono.

Morning tea will be provided, and this will be hosted at Lifestyle Communities Woodlea in the HomeCo Woodlea Town Centre (just above Aintree Food & Wine, next door to Anytime Fitness).

When: Friday July 7 at 10.30am
Where: Lifestyle Woodlea, Level 1 at Woodlea HomeCo

  • Our natural ecosystems are under threat right across Australia. But it only takes a handful of dedicated people to make a huge difference!

Come and be inspired by the story of one man in Hobart and the humble platypus.

Pizza, snacks & drinks will be provided for the cost of the tickets.

Aintree Community Garden: The Vision

Through our consultation, we have developed a vision for the Aintree Community Garden - to be an education hub for food growing, environment & sustainability.

This vision will likely see the implementation of things such as:

  • a gardening group

  • food/plant swaps

  • sustainability & food growing workshops

  • partnerships with schools & kinders

  • events to raise awareness of environmental issues

  • cooking, preserving, and sustainable living events & workshops

Current phase: Planning Approval

The Aintree Community Garden plans have been finalised and revised post consultation and are now sitting with Melton Council’s Department of Planning for final approval. We will update you as soon as we hear from planning, and hope (with a positive result) to be turning soil on the site in late October/ early November.
